Tuesday, 8th of Nissan, 5777

Sefirot Combination (Cycles of Seven Weeks):

7th day of Week 27 (the "Cow") and the 42nd day (the "Hound") of the 4th cycle, Malchut shebeYesod shebeNetzach, Kingship within Foundation within Victory/Endurance.

Comments/Perspectives: The Nassi reading for today is Menashe, the son of Yosef. Menashe, unlike Ephraim, was primarily involved in running the affairs of the kingdom, which related to Malchut shebeYesod.

Alef-Bet/Psalms (Cycles of 22 days):

13th day of the 9th cycle ("Thick and Light Clouds"), Mem within the cycle of Peh and Tzadik (Mem-Peh / Peh-Mem).

Lamentations:

From above He has hurled fire into my bones, and it broke them; He has spread a net for my feet, He has turned me back, He has made me desolate [and] faint all day long.

Comments/Perspectives: The Ben Ish Chai, in his commentary to Megilat Eicha, Nechamat Tzion, explains that the fire here is a reference to the Torah, and that our desire for it penetrates our bones and rules over us, to the extent that we are not free to take care of our financial affairs. Therefore G-d spreads a net of protection over livelihood ("feet"). Furthermore, he counts every day of exile, even the "good days" towards the reward that will come in the merit of each of them in the Final Redemption.

Hayom Yom

Every soul has its particular avoda, in the areas of intellect and emotions, in accordance with that soul's nature and character. It is written: "From my foes have You given me wisdom"; from the evil tendencies one detects in his natural traits, he can become wise and know how to handle the correction of these traits, and how to subordinate his powers, in the service of G‑d.
